The hip is the side of the body between the flank and the top of the outer thigh, and the hip dip is the hollow across it between the hip bone and the thigh. BTL lists the hips among the areas its large applicator treats; no US clearance names the hips, only the flanks above and the thighs below, and we say so plainly. A session on the hips
The large applicator sits over the side of the hip, where the gluteus medius steadies the pelvis with every step under a layer of fat that thickens with age. Electromagnetic pulses contract the muscle in strong, rapid bursts for 30 minutes while radiofrequency heats the layer over it. Both hips are treated in the course. The side of the hip is sore for a day or two afterwards.
Hip dips, honestly
The depth of a hip dip depends on how the pelvis is built and how much muscle covers it. Building the gluteus medius under the hollow is the only thing a muscle treatment can do for it, and it is what the applicator sits over. The figures
The hips themselves have no published measurement. The flanks above them measured 29% less fat and 27% thicker obliques on MRI after four weekly sessions, and the inner thigh below measured 27% less fat and 23% more muscle in a 2022 study.
